Siddharth (Kalyan Ram) tells his family members, who are looking for a suitable matrimonial alliance for him, in the first few minutes of debut writer-director Rajendra Reddy's Telugu film Amigos, that he wants to meet a girl who will pique his interest. He mentions the word "interesting" several times. That term can also be applied to the premise of Amigos. Imagine meeting not one, but two lookalikes or doppelgangers, and their pleasant encounters taking a sinister turn when one of them reveals his nefarious intentions. The intriguing concept does not translate into an entertaining and engaging narrative.
From the opening credits, Amigos introduces viewers to the concept of
doppelgangers by demonstrating how to search for lookalikes using an online
database. News clippings about lookalikes from around the world fill the
screen, along with references to Shah Rukh Khan, Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, and
Trisha.
