Shyam Benegal is the director of the 2023 Indian-Bangladeshi co-produced biopic picture Mujib: The Making of a Nation. Arifin Shuvoo plays Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh and the country's founder. He is often referred to as Bangabandhu, which means "friend of Bengal." Rahman and his family were slain following a coup d'état in 1975.This is the first biopic about him produced by the government.
Shyam Benegal hailed Bangabandhu, who was India's friend, and expressed his happiness at directing the picture.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the daughter of Bangabandhu, expressed optimism about the movie in her comments. Positively, she stated, "The film, directed by Shyam Benegal, will be accepted as a milestone in the history of Bangladeshi cinema."
